Gun Control

There are many different questions asked when talking about gun shootings and murders and what causes them. Questions like; how do gun rights (the 2nd amendment of the Constitution) and media play into our “gun-toting society? Do guns kill people or do people kill people? What, if anything can be done to make society (especially schools) safer and what does the future hold for America? And what does the future hold for gun laws?

After hearing the questions I, with the help of some research, will answer these questions by telling you my opinions. Starting with the first question, how do gun rights and media play into our “gun-toting society? I personally like having my guns, and a lot of other people do too, and the 2nd amendment protects the right for us to have those abilities and own them. Without the 2nd amendment we probably wouldn’t have the guns we have today especially with all of the people trying to get rid of them. And the media isn’t helping at all. All you see on TV and the news is that someone got hurt from messing with a gun or someone killed someone. It puts fear into the lives of the people watching it. They want to get rid of the guns because they think that the guns kill people. Which leads to my next topic, do guns kill people or do people kill people?

The guns are built to not go off unless used by a person. Even though it may not be on purpose all the time, because accidents happen, people kill people. It’s the hate in the person’s heart that aims the gun at people and it’s the stupidity and mistake of the people to leave the safety off, leave ammunition in the gun, or to point the gun in the direction it shouldn’t be pointed. Even though I like having guns, I don’t think all types of guns need to be in the procession of the people. What, if anything can be done to make society (especially schools) safer and what does the future hold for America?

It seems to be a lot to expect the people to give up the guns that the people grew up with and used to put food on the table for their families. But the guns we don’t use for hunting like M-16s and Uzis and other guns you don’t use for sporting events (hunting) could be taken off the streets and out of people’s houses. Those guns are for military purposes and the people have no reason to have them. Some may say they have them to shoot for fun but why can’t they just shoot the guns we hunt with like shotguns and rifles. That way we can still have guns for hunting and shooting but it takes away the high fire power from the people. This is also how I’m going to answer the last question. What does the future hold for gun laws?

This year Obama already made more laws dealing with background checks of citizens. I get why they want a background check when people want to buy guns, but I don’t think that the government needs to put misdemeanors on our files. Because that doesn’t need to be a part of the information needed to get a gun.

I think that the guns not needed for hunting purposes will be taken out of the homes of citizens but the rest can stay, because whether we take away all the guns or not people are still going to find a way to get done what they want done. Like people making homemade bombs on their own. Another example is even though its illegal people still make their own marijuana and other drugs and people still deal meth and cocaine even though it isn’t allowed. And if guns are taken away and the government does end up getting all of them people can still use other objects like the homemade bombs and knives. But it might bring down the numbers of killings in America per year. I personally hope we don’t have to get to that point and find out.
